Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using EasyUnscramble.
Using the Unscrambler
How does the word unscrambler work? +
You enter your letters (up to 15), and our algorithm checks every valid combination against our English dictionary to find real words. Results are grouped by word length and sorted by Scrabble score.
What does the ? symbol do? +
The ? symbol represents a wildcard or blank tile (like in Scrabble). It can stand in for any letter, allowing you to find words even when your rack has a blank.
How many letters can I enter? +
You can enter up to 15 letters at once. For Scrabble, enter your 7-tile rack plus any letters already on the board that you want to connect to.
Can I filter results by length or position? +
Yes. Use the Advanced Options to set a minimum and maximum word length, specify a starting letter or ending letter, or require the word to contain certain letters.
Dictionaries & Scoring
Which dictionaries do you support? +
We support three dictionaries: Standard English (a broad everyday English word list), Scrabble TWL (Tournament Word List for North American Scrabble), and Words With Friends. Switch between them using the dropdown in the unscrambler.
How are Scrabble scores calculated? +
Each letter has a point value (A=1, B=3, C=3, D=2, E=1... Q=10, Z=10). We sum up the values for each letter in the word. Note: board multipliers (double/triple letter/word score) are not included, as those depend on where you play.
Are Words With Friends scores different from Scrabble? +
Yes. WWF uses a slightly different scoring system. For example, C is worth 4 in WWF (vs. 3 in Scrabble), and some other letters differ. We calculate both scores so you can compare.
Daily Puzzle
What is the daily puzzle? +
Each day we reveal a new scrambled word drawn from one of ten themed categories: Garden, Family, Cooking, Music, Travel, Nature, Animals, Sports, Classic Literature, and Holidays. Unscramble it using the hint for a small daily win.
Is there a timer or scoring system? +
No. EasyUnscramble is intentionally pressure-free. There is no timer, no score, and no streak to maintain. Just enjoyment.
Can I see yesterday's puzzle? +
Yes — the Daily Puzzle page shows recent puzzles so you can go back and try any you missed.
Privacy & Account
Do I need an account? +
No account is ever required. You can use every feature of EasyUnscramble anonymously.
Do you store my searches? +
We do not store your individual letter searches. We use basic analytics to understand which pages are popular, but nothing is linked to your identity.
Is there a mobile app? +
Not yet — but EasyUnscramble is fully optimized for mobile browsers and can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) by tapping "Add to Home Screen" in your browser.
