How It Works
A plain-language guide to what happens when you type letters into the unscrambler.
You enter your letters
Type up to 15 letters into the input field. Letters are automatically converted to uppercase. You can include ? for blank/wildcard tiles.
We check every valid word
Our algorithm loads a dictionary of common English words and tests each one against your letters. For each candidate word, we check whether every letter in the word can be formed from your available letters — accounting for wildcards.
Results are filtered and sorted
If you've set filters (minimum/maximum length, starts with, ends with, contains), we apply them. Then we sort by Scrabble score within each length group, so high-value words appear first.
Scores are calculated
Each letter has a standard Scrabble point value. We sum these values for the word. We also calculate a Words With Friends score using that game's slightly different point values. Neither score includes board multipliers.
Results are grouped and displayed
Words are grouped by letter count, from longest to shortest. Each word displays its Scrabble score. Clicking or tapping a word copies it to your clipboard.
The Word List
Our built-in dictionary covers thousands of common English words from 2 to 15 letters. It is designed to balance completeness with speed — results appear in milliseconds without a server round-trip.
