A good word list is half the battle in any word game. In Scrabble and Words With Friends, the players who win consistently aren't the ones with the biggest vocabularies — they're the ones who know which words are playable. Skimming a list by length trains your eye to spot patterns on the rack: common endings like -ING and -ERS, vowel-heavy words that rescue a clogged board, and the short connectors that turn one play into two. For Wordle and other guess-the-word games, browsing a list is a gentle way to widen your pool of opening guesses and to jog your memory when you're stuck on the last row.

Which lengths matter for which game?

Not all lengths pull equal weight. Five-letter words are the heart of Wordle — every answer and every guess lives on that list. Seven-letter words are Scrabble gold: play all seven tiles at once and you earn a 50-point bingo bonus, so knowing common seven-letter patterns is the single biggest score booster in the game. And the humble two-letter and three-letter words are the glue of every board game — they let you hook new words onto existing ones and squeeze points out of tight corners. Words like QI, ZA, and XU are board-game legends for a reason.
